Sky Avenue Restaurants at Resorts World Genting (36-hours Food Trail) - Part 1

My family loves to visit Resorts World Genting which is 6000 feet above sea level because of the cool weather, great environment and lots of things to do and restaurants to dine in. Last weekend, my children and I dined in at 28 restaurants / F&B outlets during the 36-hours Food Trail organized by the PR team of Resorts World Genting. We received a stamp after dining at each outlet and we were glad to be able to complete the task in time. It was not an easy task but we were happy to be able to try out many different types of food.

My first stop was at Starbucks Reserve where we learnt all about coffee. Starbucks Reserve offers premium and rare coffee beans only available at their cafes and not at any Starbucks stores. The coffee master, Ayesha explained the 3 methods of brewing coffee and gave us some Nicaragua La Roca coffee from Latin America to taste. This coffee has a medium acidity level. It tasted pretty bitter to me. I am not a coffee lover so I do not really know which coffee beans are good.

After this coffee experience, I headed  over to Morganfield's for lunch. This is a non-halal restaurant on level 1 of Sky Avenue. It is very spacious and the staffs were very friendly. They gave us nice paper hats which says 'Feast Like A King'. Morganfield's is celebrating their 6th anniversary this year.

We were served with Bacon Wrapped Meatballs and Onion Blossom which is deep fried onion served with BBQ mayonnaise dressing. This dish is cooked with a RM 3000 machine which only cooks this dish. Then came the tender, succulent Grilled Spare Ribs in Hickory BBQ sauce (also known as Sticky Bones). This spare ribs tasted very delicious and the meat was juicy. My daughter loved the Onion Blossom because it was crispy and tasted nice. It was named Onion Blossom because it looked like a flower.

After a heavy lunch, my children and I wanted something light and we headed to Inside Scoop for ice cream and waffle. It was a sweet and delicious dessert.

Our next stop was light too because we were still quite full. We went to Tian Ma Bird Nest which was on Level 4 of Sky Avenue for some revitalising bird's nests. We were served with 3 types of bird's nests that tasted very delicious. Bird's nests is very healthy and great for maintaining glowing skin. Since bird's nest is expensive and I seldom get a chance to drink this, I was happy to be able to drink 3 bowls which I shared with my children.

Clockwise from the top : Signature Double Boiled Bird's Nest, Bird's Nest with Pear, Bird's Nest with Ginseng Tea

Since Koong Woh Tong was just beside Tian Ma Bird Nest, we dropped by to have our herbal jelly (Gui Lin Gao) which tasted very smooth. My children and I finished this within a few seconds. We were also given 2 bottles of Traditional Chinese Herbal Tea to cool down our heatiness.

I Love You was also on the same 4th level of Sky Avenue. We were given very delicious porridge, soya bean drink, Tao Foo Fa and Yau Char Kwai. The Tao Foo Fa was very smooth, one of the best I have tasted.

After eating at I Love You restaurant, we checked in to our hotel room, took a rest and took our baths before continuing our food trail. For dinner, we went to KyoChon 1991 to have the garlic fried chicken wings, spicy fried chicken wings, garlic rice, salad and soup. Since I do not like garlic, I only ate the salad and spicy fried chicken wings but it was way too spicy and I cried after eating this dish. It has been a long time since I ate something that spicy and cried.

Our next restaurant was one of my favorite and my children enjoyed dining at DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe. This is a themed restaurant with all the Superhero decorations. It is a great family dining restaurant where all the tables, seats, walls, menu and food was nicely decorated with Superheroes logos and pictures.

It is not only nicely decorated, the food was also very delicious. We ordered the Mera's Ocean Magic which was Balinese Seafood Spicy Spaghetti, The Bat Pod which was tradisional homemade chicken lasagna with lots of macaroni and cheese, and Katana Sliced Hawaiian Pizza which was topped with turkey ham slices, olives, capsicum and pineapples. This pizza was thin crust, crispy and delicious.

We were very full after dining at 8 restaurants on the first day and there were 20 more restaurants to visit the next day. Stay tune to my blog for the continuation of my food trail review and how I managed to visit 20 more restaurants the next day.

East Coast Arts & Cultural Centre at SeniKome Peng Heng, Resorts World Genting

Since young, I love traditional arts and culture of different places. That is one of the reasons I love to travel because I like to explore. If you have the same interest as me, you would probably like to visit SeniKome Peng Heng situated at Level 3 of First World Plaza. This is the place to see and learn more about the arts and culture of the East Coast states of Peninsular Malaysia namely Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.

SeniKome which directly translates to "Our Art" in the Pahang local dialect is dedicated to promote the beauty of the East Coast Malaysia's local craft, fashion, games, paintings, music and food. Peng Heng is the name stated in historical documents of the Ming Dynasty in the 1520's. From authentic artifacts and paintings to an 'Orang Asli' exhibition, SeniKome tastefully depicts the distinctive charm of Peng Heng, a traditional reference to the East Coast region.

There are visual and performing arts programs such as 'wayang kulit', batik, wau and video projection demonstrations here. There are also many traditional games where visitors can play like 'congkak', 'batu seremban', hopscotch, and other games. When I was there, it really brought back memories of me playing some of those games when I was a kid.

From July to September 2017, there will be various highlights of traditional art forms. One of the highlights is the Joget Gamelan, a classical dance that originated in the courts of Riau and Lingga in the 17th century. It became popular in Pahang and Terengganu and there are 33 Gamelan dances that are still being practised until today.

In the coming months, there will be silk screen painting which is believed to have taken root 1,000 years ago in China. It is considered the most versatile of all printing processes. For the next 2 months, there will be different art forms showcased every weekend. On 29 and 30 July 2017, visitors will get to witness the beauty of batik-making, a technique of hand-dyeing fabrics by using wax as a dye repellent.

Following that, silk screen painting will be in the limelight on 26 and 27 August, while a watercolor painting demo will be held on 31 August and 1 September. Joget Gamelan is the main highlight on 2 and 3 September, a demo on sketching on 9 and 10 September, pottery on 16 and 17 September and a weaving demo from 22 and 24 September.

There is also a reading corner at the centre. Guided tours are held 3 times daily.

If you are hungry when you are here, you can enjoy traditional dishes like the Nasi Kerabu, Keropok Lekor, Mee Siam and refreshing drinks such as pandan leaves, mint leaves, lemongrass, honey and asam boi.

Visitors can buy souvenirs and gifts such as pewter ware items or fine textiles.

Admission tickets to SeniKome are priced at RM 8 for adults (RM 7 for GRC members) and RM 6 for children (RM 5 for GRC members). There's also the family package priced at RM 25 that allows entrance for 2 adults and 2 children. For more information, call +603 2718 1118 or visit www.rwgenting.com

Pika Pika Sparkling Bright Tea Party

Last Saturday, I attended the Pika Pika Sparkling Bright Tea Party organized by Watsons and Butterfly Project. Thanks for the invitation.

Pika Pika is a Japanese skin care brand and Pika Pika means sparkling bright.

We were introduced to 3 types of Pika Pika Deep Cleansing range skin care products.

1. Sparkling Bright Fruity Cleansing Liquid 190ml (RM 79.00) - Contains natural fruit extract, AHA and BHA. Helps dissolve dead skin and impurities in clogged pores, easily removes makeup in the shower.

2. Sparkling Peel Off Mask 80g (RM 49.00) - Helps purify dead skin and absorbs excess oil, contains ARBUTIN to help inhibit dark spots and freckles and prevent skin aging.

3. Sparkling Bright Hot & Cool Cleansing Gel 35g (RM 39.00) - The thermal hot and cold effect helps to enlarge pores for removing blackheads and dirt, menthol helps to soothe skin and shrink pores, helps purify dead skin and absorbs excess oil. The double function is Cleansing & Repairing.

We were asked to come without makeup or with minimal makeup. All who attended the party had to do a no mirror makeup challenge. I brought my waterproof makeup for this. I used foundation, blusher, lipstick, eyebrow liner, mascara but I did not use my eye liner because I was not confident enough. Well, I was glad I still looked great.

The no mirror makeup challenge.

After we did our makeup, we were each given a bowl of water to pat our face with water and use the Pika Pika Sparkling Bright Fruity Cleansing Liquid to wash our face.

Pika Pika Sparkling Bright Fruity Cleansing Liquid is clear and very waterly. It has a nice apple smell and works really well in removing waterproof makeup.

This is how we looked after washing our faces with Pika Pika Deep Cleansing Sparkling Bright Fruity Cleansing liquid. (From left to right: Betty, Joanne, Geozo and me)

Later I tested the Pika Pika Sparkling Peel Off Mask on my hand. I had to leave it on for 15 mins or until it was dry, then peel it off. My skin felt tighter when it was dry and it was very easy to peel off. This helps to revive dull skin and prevents skin aging. This contains white clay which is very effective in making your face sparkling bright.

We were also asked to put some Pika Pika Sparkling Bright Hot & Cool Cleansing Gel  on the T-zone of our face. I felt a little hot sensation and then cold and the thermal effect helps to enlarge pores for removing blackheads and dirt. This is great if you do not like the painful extraction process during your facial visits to beauty centers. There is menthol which soothes and shrink pores. Using this gives the double function - cleansing & repairing.

You can get these Pika Pika Sparkling Bright range at Watsons, either online http://www.watsons.com.my/ or at Watsons stores. If you buy online, you can use Promo Code : PIKA10A to get RM 10.00 off. This code is valid until 31st July 2017.

Sherry and me

At the end of our party, there were lots of delicious, sweet desserts. All were very nicely decorated especially the Unicorn macaroon and Unicorn ice-cream. Thanks to Forêt Blanc for the delicious desserts.
