Shopee Live Enables Keropok Lekor Seller from Terengganu to Own a House

Muhammad Faizz bin Pausan Arif from Terengganu, owner-operator of Keropok Mfaizz, is one of Shopee Live’s top record-breaking rural sellers for selling over RM500,000 keropok lekor in just three months. Every morning at 8am on Shopee Live, he becomes a household name as Malaysian audiences watch him pack two thirds fish meat mixture for instant delivery on his ‘Packing Secara Live’ series. 

“I am very happy as Shopee Live has changed my life – previously, I was living with my mother and my sales were limited by slow traffic to my offline store. With Shopee Live, I’ve managed to build my own home, have my own assets, and I’m now able to take care of my family,” said Muhammad Faizz, who now owns his own factory and processes 1 ton of fish meat per day and considering additional production capacity to keep up with customer demands on livestream.

His biggest lesson: content is king. ‘Based on my experience, people get bored by the same types of content, so I always have to try new ways to engage with them. I used to show them how to make keropok live, and that was hot… before the views dropped off. Then I told them to buy five packets of lekor and get homemade chilli sauce free, but sales were still slow. When I show ‘this is my product’ things I lose viewers and sales. After I did Packing Secara Live, my sales broke all records on 11.11 because customers love to see their products being packed and ready to post. I am always searching for new content.’ 

Muhammad Faizz explains why he stands out from the crowd of livestream sellers by picking the 8am slot on Shopee Live: ‘People love to eat keropok lekor as fresh as possible, so I show the breakfast audience how I mix 20kg of boneless ikan selayang fish meat with 10kg tepung sagu and fry it with other tasty ingredients live until it is half-cooked, and then vacuum pack it in time for the courier to pick it up at noon. When my customers receive their packages in two days, they can fry it again to eat.”

Many of his competitors in Terengganu are offline keropok sellers who have to wait for the school holiday period to experience any uptick in sales. Muhammad Faizz on the other hand, has broken the norm and sold over 18,000 orders to customers nationwide, mostly from Selangor and Johor since joining Shopee Live in March 2023. A true believer now in online platforms, Muhammad Faizz aspires to take things to the next level as the top keropok online entrepreneur in Malaysia. 

“Thanks to its significant traffic and conversion rates, I save a lot of marketing costs on Shopee Live. My plan is to add more live stream sessions, and more production capacity and machines so that I can do Live for longer, and hire a host who can act as my backup.”

His success is proving beneficial to his local community. He sources all fish from fishermen in Terengganu to make keropok lekor, keropok ikan putih and keropok segera. He now hires 25 employees in his neighborhood to help in production and packaging and is motivating his four siblings (who are all keropok sellers) to go online.

Shopee Super Awards 2023: Where E-Commerce Meets Entertainment and Innovation


Shopee Super Awards 2023 returned this year, celebrating the greatest and brightest stars of Malaysia’s booming e-commerce landscape. The Jingle and Magic with U.S. Potatoes Festive Extravaganza

Recently I attended the Jingle U.S. Potatoes All The Way Christmas Workshop, a unique culinary event celebrating the versatility and flavor of U.S. potatoes at FunFun Event Space featuring a variety of activities, games, interactive workshops and cooking demonstrations. 

I loved the Potato Christmas Garden displaying the Russet, Red and Purple U.S. fresh potatoes along with different cuts of frozen U.S. potatoes as well as instant U.S. mashed potatoes mixes. What a great spot to take lovely photos. Guests could take part in the social media contest by taking photos at the photo booth and posting them. 

The emcee welcomed guests and introduced Mr. Eddie Saw, the Country Representative of Potatoes USA who then delivered an enlightening speech about the journey and significance of U.S. potatoes.


Renowned Chef ZieZie gave a captivating cooking demonstration on how to prepare Baked U.S. Potatoes with Cheese. She made it look really easy to cook and it looked very delicious. 


Later, guests were invited to cook the Twinkle U.S. Potatoes Stars using U.S. Russet potatoes. This dish turned out really nice and the whole hands-on cooking experience was very fun. 


The celebration continued with Chef Taufiq Halim leading a potato carving workshop, teaching guests to carve two festive figurines from U.S. Russet and Purple potatoes.  I tried carving the reindeer and it turned out pretty nice.

All guests were later presented with certificates by Chef ZieZie followed by a group photo session and a sumptuous lunch. After lunch, ten winners were given special prizes for their participation in the social media photo contest. The event ended about 2.30pm.

I learnt the nutritional benefits of U.S. potatoes and how to cook various delicious potato dishes. Overall, the Jingle U.S. Potatoes All The Way Christmas Workshop was very enjoyable and fun.

Malaysian Sellers Prioritise Trusted Shopping Experiences

A new survey of sellers on Shopee has revealed how sellers are prioritising safe shopping for customers. When 500 Malaysian local and independent online sellers were asked "Which is your platform of choice in operating a safe online business for customers?" in September 2023, 90% chose Shopee out of nine possible other marketplaces to operate on. 

“These findings demonstrate the high level of trust that Malaysian sellers have in Shopee's ability to provide a safe and secure platform for their businesses. Our platform offers a variety of innovative features and protections that help to keep customers safe, such as Shopee Guarantee, secure payment options, and Preferred+ and Shopee Mall verification programs. Shopee also works closely with law enforcement agencies to combat fraud and protect its users,” said Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing at Shopee.

Tangible Impact on Sellers’ Profitabilities

The #ShopSafeWithShopee survey found that nine in ten Malaysian sellers on Shopee have protected their business from any forms of online scams or fraud in the last year. Providing trusted shopping experiences has directly translated into the following tangible benefits:

53% of sellers have protected their brand reputation with stellar ratings, avoiding loss of followers, and reducing customer complaints of their store. 

24% of sellers have saved expenses from any liabilities that could arise from scams such as order cancellations and processing fees.

23% of sellers have sustained the long-term continuity of their operations because they are able to keep clients loyal and minimise or avoid online business disruptions.

These findings highlight the fact that sellers keenly understand that customers want to be confident that they are buying from trusted sellers and that their purchases are protected. By taking steps to ensure safe shopping, sellers know they can build trust with customers and boost their sales.

Prioritising Online Safety Features to Maximise Customer Trust

By design, Shopee strengthens responsible selling among its community of sellers by incentivizing them to ensure high standards of service to buyers. Shopee University’s Seller Education Hub also drives education through free webinars on Malaysia Brand Protection, Return Policies, and Shopee Mall. 

When asked, “When setting up your online business, what features do you prioritise to ensure your customers' safety?” Malaysian sellers who took the survey revealed:

47% of sellers on Shopee have established strong operational safety standards by complying with Shopee’s safe policies and guidelines, providing excellent customer service, and accumulating customer ratings and testimonials of this record.

35% of sellers have gotten verified as Shopee Mall, Preferred+, Preferred seller with the objective of allowing their customers know that they follow a 100% Authenticity Policy, adhere strictly to the 15-day return/refund policy for all buyers, and have no less than 95% of products listed as ready stock.

17% of sellers ensure that their customers know that Shopee offers a variety of secure payment options and return/refund policies, such as Shopee Guarantee, where payments to sellers are temporarily held by Shopee until buyers confirm that orders are fulfilled and satisfactory.

These proactive measures are in line with the expectations Malaysian customers have when seeking safe online experiences. In a similar survey of 1,000 shoppers earlier last month, Shopee found that Malaysians value the opinions of other buyers when making online purchases. They are also likely to choose sellers who have been verified by Shopee or who have a good track record of customer service.

Dubai Chocolates by PHINIX STORE Go Viral on Shopee Live

PHINIX STORE is the local homegrown seller responsible for making Dubai Chocolates go viral on Shopee Live. Deploying a creative and systematic approach to live selling, founders Husman Setta and Khaled Hassan, also known as Abang Ah Ah switched from a social commerce site to Shopee Live in July 2023 and saw Malaysian candy lovers place more than 1,000 orders per day with them, far outstripping their initial targets of 50 orders a day. 



They attribute their rapid growth, of up to 90% uplift in sales, to the fact that Shopee Live has the right audience familiar with the platform and primed to shop on livestream events, compared to other apps in their experience where audiences were seeking entertainment but not shopping.


“At the time, these chocolates were not that well known on social media or other platforms…Now I can say that 90% of our daily sales come from Shopee Live, especially from returning customers. We get to build customer relationships and have good interactions with our customers. Sometimes, our customers have become like friends to us, they join the livestream to ‘hang out’. Even offline, sometimes the customers recognise us and say hi to us, and we talk as well,” Husman said.
