Musical Extravaganza ‘The Smurfs Live On Stage’ at Resorts World Genting

When I was a small girl, my favorite cartoon was Smurfs because the every story was interesting and the all the Smurfs were so cute. I still remember it was aired very early in the morning and I had to ask my brother to pinch me to wake me up. Seeing Smurfs perform live at Resorts World Genting brought back happy memories.

‘The Smurfs Live On Stage – The Smurfs Save Spring’ is a 70-minute, two act musical extravaganza that features live actors singing and dancing in full Smurf costumes. Arriving in Malaysia for the first time, the adorable blue creatures of the forest will be taking over the stage at the Genting International Showroom from May 26 to June 24, 2018. This is a great time to bring your children here during the coming school holidays.

Smurfs living happily in their Smurf Village

Here's a short video I recorded.

“We are delighted to be the home for the Smurfs for a month, as they triumph over the odds to save spring in this joyous musical,” says Kevin Tann, Vice President of Promotions and Entertainment for Resorts World Genting. “I am looking forward to seeing this myself, as I remember growing up with the Smurfs cartoon. Touring productions such as The Smurfs Save Spring help cement Resorts World Genting’s commitment to providing a full range of entertainment options for families, emphasizing positive messages and allowing parents and their children to bond in shared nostalgia.”

Evil Gargamel put Mother Nature into a deep sleep.

Gargamel made spring weather cold and raining

Directed by John Rowe and choreographed by Katie Kermond, of Millennium Entertainment International, ‘The Smurfs Live On Stage – The Smurfs Save Spring’ presents an original story about the Smurfs’ favorite time of the year which is spring. As the village prepares for their much awaited Spring Parade, their perennial nemesis, the evil Gargamel plots to disrupt the festivities with another one of his wicked plans. The Smurfs will have to work together to battle Gargamel and save Mother Nature, brought to life by the talented actors of this long running touring production. Eight of the best-known Smurfs will feature prominently in ‘The Smurfs Live On Stage – The Smurfs Save Spring’, including Papa Smurf, Clumsy Smurf, Brainy Smurf, Grumpy Smurf, Vanity Smurf and the lovely Smurfette.

Gargamel disguised as Mother Nature waiting for Papa Smurf to come.

“This year is the Smurfs’ 60th anniversary, as they were born in 1958,” says Nick Larkin, producer of the show. “It took many, many years of meetings, approvals, designing and planning to bring this show to life, but it was worth it in the end. We’ve thrilled audiences worldwide with this production and I am incredibly excited to bring The Smurfs Save Spring to Resorts World Genting. The show is about positive messages about friendship, teamwork and care of the environment, and I look forward to seeing happy, smiling faces in the theatre.”

Themepaktu Dinosaur Kingdom

When I was young, I loved going to theme parks and enjoyed playing outdoors. There were no digital devices like smartphones or tablets then. However, children these days are always playing games or watching Youtube videos. You will be surprised that even toddlers know how to manoeuvre their way through smartphones or tablets. Digital devices are good for learning, communicating, searching for information and others but spending too much time on digital devices is not healthy. Usually I like to bring my children outdoors to play and learn.

Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning - new SkySymphony show at SkyAvenue

Last week my daughter and I were invited to the launch of the new Sky Symphony show - Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning at Sky Avenue. This is a computer graphic animated magical musical masterpiece featuring Maestro Ning, the sea turtle musical genius conducting a deep ocean orchestra. If you are not sure where to bring your children this school holidays, you can consider coming up to Resorts World Genting.

Genting Malaysia’s CG animated production company, Genting Studios, incorporated to deliver premium and world class content in CG productions. The show was produced over four (4) months by the Genting Studios team located in Los Angeles and Kuala Lumpur. The show is directed by Guy Vasilovich (All I Want for Christmas is You, Lego Star Wars) and executive produced by Daniel Regis Brown (Dex Hamilton, Pumpkin Reports) and Steven Lim Tze Siang (Saladin: The Animated Series, Bola Kampung: The Movie). “Ocean Groove” is an original composition by Emmy Award-winning composer Gigi Meroni.

Mr. Brian Machamer, Senior Vice President of Theme Park at Resorts World Genting said, “We at Resorts World Genting are very excited and proud to be constantly bringing our visitors new and original content to our SkySymphony screens. This school holidays, holiday makers will be awed by Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning. This show is a brilliant example of how Resorts World Genting constantly set new standards in entertainment by seamlessly weaving together CG animation, music and the magic of technology to produce a magnificent production. I’m sure this new show will be a success and will be enjoyed by people from all walks of life.”

“The combination of paring the very best of Hollywood studio animation development talent with the very best of CG production taken in Kuala Lumpur, allows us to deliver premium content on a highly competitive budget,” said Regis Brown, Deputy Managing Director of Genting Studios.  “Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning is the first of many planned productions as we build Genting Studios into a world-class content creator/distributor.”

Ocean Groove with Maestro Ning will be staged at the SkySymphony, where nearly four story high LED screens surrounding the concourse will come alive with the new musical show, complemented by the state-of-the-art 1,001 winch balls that synchronizes and move to form different shapes to tell this colorful and musical underwater story.

The five (5) minute show features Maestro Ning in the deep-ocean with his orchestra playing a powerful original composition, “Ocean Groove”.  The Maestro is a musical genius; a tempestuous sea turtle who embodies the artistic temperament. With a flick of his baton, the Maestro makes musical magic with the colourful collective of fish and crustacean instruments on a stunning stage in the ocean depths.

Here is a video I recorded. Come up to Sky Avenue to see this new SkySymphony show.

At the Times Square stage at SkyAvenue at Resorts World Genting for the upcoming weeks in May for only six days, there will be a very special live dance performance where visitors can journey on a marvellous adventure with colourful and fun creatures from the depths of the deep blue sea. Visitors can catch 15 performers come out as silly crustaceans, a fabulous octopus witch, seahorses, charming corals and other mysterious mythical creatures from the ocean.

The live performance is also scheduled for more shows for the upcoming weeks in May on 19, 20, and 26-29 May, where visitors will marvel at friends from the ocean clad in splendid costumes that will mesmerise audiences for a total of 20 minutes at various show times: 11.00am, 1.00pm, 3.00pm, 5.00pm and 8.00pm.
